THERAPEUTIC CHOIRS
Practice social skills by engaging with similar aged peers in group music experiences.
About Therapeutic Choirs
This is a choir experience for children with special needs. The group will focus on bringing children together to learn songs and dances that they can perform for their families and community. The goal of the group is to be as inclusive as possible and provide a space where children can come to learn about music and have fun with other children who share a similar interest in music. Rehearsals focus on learning music and choreography in a group setting to provide opportunities to practice social skills such as following directions, listening to others, imitating others and managing regulation in a group setting. If a child is non-verbal, they can participate by doing the choreographed dance moves. Individuals that are not appropriate for the group include those who have intense sensory needs, aggressive behaviors, or extreme rigidity that would prevent them from functioning in a group setting and who might pose a threat to the safety of the group as a whole.
